The ITECH-STEM has been hosting an annual ITECH-STEM Summer Technology Camps since 2016. We have touched the lives of numerous students and received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our parents. Here are some of the testimonies from our parents:

“I wanted to take this opportunity to state what a positive experience this has been for my son. I am in the IT field and it was so great to see that spark get ignited in my child’s brain. Thank you for providing the guidance and mentorship to enhance our children’s curiosity via various STEM activities. I hope to help her build on her new skills and turn that spark into a flame”. Beyond the classroom, we extend this instructional model through service-learning and community engagement programs such as ITECH-STEM, CodeCougars, and BioTechnology Academy. In these initiatives, undergraduate and graduate students are trained as mentors and instructors who teach STEM, coding, digital media, and technology skills to K-12 students in the community.

Through this model, university students gain valuable leadership and teaching experience while younger students benefit from engaging in STEM learning opportunities. We mentor around 60-100 undergraduates and graduate students annually through our STEM community projects. The impact of this approach is significant. Each year, dozens of University of Houston students gain hands-on experience as mentors, teachers, and designers of learning experiences.

These opportunities strengthen students’ professional skills, increase their confidence, and help them build a strong connection between academic learning and real-world impact. Community participants—including around 250 K-12 students and families annually —benefit from access to innovative STEM learning opportunities and mentorship from UH students.
