  • Saturday, April 20, 2024
  • Saturday, April 27, 2024

In addition to the Spring LEADERS Camp, there will be a separate ITECH-STEM Summer Camp “face-to-face” at UH Sugar Land in the summer (June 3 -7, 2024).

We have been successfully hosting the LEADERS Spring STEM camp “online” since Spring 2022. We believe that our kids need to regularly engage in innovative learning experiences in spring and then continue learning in summer, and be exposed to emerging STEM and Computer Science topics in a fun and safe setting together with their peers and a great team of UH faculty members, graduate/undergraduate students as mentors and coaches.

WHAT IS THE LEADERS & ITECH-STEM PROJECT?

Both LEADERS spring and ITECH-STEM summer technology camps are part of a larger research project called Innovative Technology Challenges for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (ITECH-STEM) at the College of Education, University of Houston. The main purpose of ITECH-STEM is to develop an innovative program promoting/teaching computer science (CS) and technology (T) topics that are popular and emerging with a STEM focus. Besides the technology camps, the ITECH-STEM activities include STEM Scouts and year-around hack-a-thons/contests/challenges.

The LEADERS (Learn, Engage, and Develop Efficiently through Research and Service) project consists of three weeks of intensive Saturday “workshop labs” consisting of learning sessions in the spring semester with UH faculty, industry experts, and UH students supervising, instructing, and mentoring students. ITECH-STEM develops this project at the University of Houston.

The LEADERS project involves teaching the following Domains:

  • Artificial Intelligence for Digital Storytelling/Video Production
  • Programming and Coding with Scratch
